Angela Carter, Licensed Massage Therapist

Hi!  Welcome to my web site.  Take a look around and please let me know if there is anything that I can do for you.

Let me tell you about myself.  I graduated Cum Laude from Ohio University (go Bobcats!) in 1989 with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology.  Afterwards I obtained my Social Worker's License.  I worked in that field until I found that my work was not fulfilling.  I was working at a very stressful job, and found that receiving massages helped me cope.  I realized that helping others to cope through massage was the answer for which I had been searching.  I left my job and began my massage career.  I was trained in Swedish massage at Self-Health in Lebanon, Ohio.  I graduated and became licensed by the State of Ohio Medical Board in 1996.  I was in private practice until October of 2002 when I opened the group practice.

Frequently I'm asked what type of massage I do.  As I said above, I was trained in Swedish massage.  Since graduation I have taken courses in Neuro-Muscular Therapy, which is a deeper tissue massage.  Its philosophy is much more muscle specific than Swedish.  I have taken Sports Massage training, and have worked as a Sports Massage Therapist in different venues.   I also am certified in Pre-Natal Massage.  Not every type of massage is right for everyone, so my goal is to tailor a massage to fit your individual needs.  I have been told that I have very strong hands, but I can adapt my pressure to what you find comfortable.

I have taken a seminar by Michael Young, LMT, on Muscle Release Technique™.   This type of massages incorporates extension and flexion and other movements of the muscle(s), which in turn will help break up scar tissue and lengthen the muscle(s).  Various ailments such as carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic back pain, tennis or golfer's elbow, Fibromyalgia, and tendonitis, among others,  will benefit from this type of treatment.  You can read more about this type of therapy at mrtherapy.com.

I had an injury almost 2 years ago to my left knee.  I had to have ACL reconstruction.  Since then I have struggled with chronic pain.  I have had 5 surgeries  now in that time period.  I do not believe that chronic pain can fully be understood unless someone experiences that personally.  It has affected every aspect of my life and I continue to try my best to deal with it.  I  never would have thought that being 43 years old I would be begging for a knee replacement!  But because of that injury I feel that actually I can understand my clients better.

I have 2 beautiful daughters, Laura, 9,  and Emma, 7.  Just ask and I will show you their pictures!  We have 2 dogs; Moose is half chocolate lab and half Chesapeake Bay retriever, and   Cindy, a chocolate lab.  And we recently just adopted 2 identical kittens, Stars and Stripes.  In addition to that, we have a guinea pig,  and a couple of fish tanks.  As a friend just stated the other day, the entire food chain is represented at our house!
