Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect from my first massage?

Congratulations on scheduling your first massage!  You deserve it!  Many people are apprehensive about scheduling/receiving their first massage because they are not sure of what to expect.  We are 100% committed to making sure that you are absolutely comfortable.  Privacy and confidentiality are of the utmost importance.  You will be covered at all times by a sheet and blanket, exposing only the area being worked on.  What you wear during a massage is up to you.  Some people choose to undress completely; others leave all of their clothes on, and others somewhere in between the two.  Whatever makes you the most comfortable is best.

Because we are licensed by the State of Ohio Medical Board, a medical massage history will be taken.  This is to determine if there are any contra-indications for massage.  It also aids in designing a treatment plan specifically for you.

I remember my first massage.  I was very nervous.  I was sure that she was going to judge my body.  I was scared!  I keep that thought at the forefront when I know that it is someone's first massage.  I want this to be a very enjoyable as well as therapeutic experience for you.  This includes the oil or lotion used, the music, and the amount of pressure used.  If something isn't to your liking, please let me know!  I'll change it!

What is a massage good for?

Believe it or not, massage either directly or indirectly affects every system of the body.  For that reason, massage is good for a multitude of ailments including:

bullet

    Arthritis

bullet

    Fibromyalgia

bullet

    Chronic Pain

bullet

    Sports Injuries

bullet

    Circulatory Problems

bullet

    TMJ Disorder

bullet

    Sleep Problems

bullet

    Sciatica/Nerve Pain

bullet

    Migraines/Chronic Headache

bullet

    General Stress

Along with causing a reduction in the stress hormones, it will also help to diminish depressive symptoms.  Massage will help to increase the range of motion and will help to decrease swelling/edema.  Along with the increase in blood circulation from massage, lymph will also travel more freely throughout the body, thus enhancing the immune system.  Massage can also aid in special circumstances not normally thought of, such as Attention Deficit Disorder, the development and weight gain  of premature babies, assisting women before and after a pregnancy, as well as during the labor, eating disorders, and chemical addictions, among others.  Ask me if you have any questions about a specific disorder.

Why do you think it is important to receive a massage?

I think that there are a lot of people out in this world who are "walking wounded".  They are on a personal journey not knowing where they are going or what they are looking for.  Perhaps they feel as though they just don't belong in their body anymore because that body is not working for them, kind of like a wet suit that doesn't fit.   Research has shown the positive effects of massage again and again.  Massage can benefit everyone, if they would just give it a try. Whatever the reason for feeling out of sorts, within a single heartbeat you can change your environment, just as taking a very deep breath will change your outlook.  Why not start today and schedule your massage.

Is massage supposed to hurt?

A lot of people think that massage is like exercise, and supposed to hurt.  Massage is literally exercising the muscles, but it is not supposed to hurt.  That is not our intention at all.  There may be some places that are tender and may be initially uncomfortable, but we always work within the person's tolerance level.  There also is a difference between a "good hurt" and a hurt that just plain hurts.  We never want the massage to just plain hurt.  Sometimes though the "good hurt" is needed to work through the knot in the muscle.  However, once again, we work within what that person feels is comfortable.

How often should I get a massage?

This is a very common question, and has a different answer for everyone who asks it!  If you are experiencing acute pain or suffer from high stress levels, receiving massages on a regular weekly or bi-monthly basis will benefit you the most.  If you are looking for general stress reduction or relaxation, once a month is what a lot of people find works for them.  After you have received regular massages, your body will also let you know when you need more bodywork done.  If you're not sure, simply ask your massage therapist what is best for you.

How much is a massage?

These days it's hard to put a price on your wellness.  However, in today's society and fast paced lifestyle, your health needs to be a top priority to keep you going on that highway of life.  Money spent today on wellness and stress reduction can certainly save you money that would have been spent, much to your disliking, in the event of sickness and time off of work.  Many people would much rather invest in themselves, so that in turn they are better equipped to deal with life's daily turmoil.  Massage is the natural and holistic answer to stress reduction.  When weighed against prescriptions and medical procedures, massage is an enjoyable bargain!  Click here for pricing information.

Do you take insurance?

At this time, insurance is not filed directly by the massage therapist.  We can help you fill out your forms and supply the necessary documentation to assist you in that process.  Some clients have had insurance companies reimburse them for their massages.  With the health care industry changing almost daily, hopefully insurance companies will recognize that preventive care saves money.  Let your insurance company know that you would like them to cover massage.

Another problem, I believe, with the healthcare industry and insurance, is that you have to be "sick" to get in to the system.  Massage is a way of taking care of yourself before you find yourself suffering ailments perhaps caused by stress.  Why not take care of yourself today, so that in turn, you can avoid running yourself into the ground and becoming sick.

What is on-site massage or chair massage?

On-Site massage is where the therapist comes to your office or any other location, with a chair specially designed for massages.  It is a convenient and cost-effective way for employers to bring in a massage therapist to help decrease the stress in the work environment.  It only takes a short time (usually 15 minutes per employee) and is done fully clothed.  Many employers see their employees working more productively, using less sick days, having increased morale, while at the same time helping the employees improve their general wellness.  What a wonderful company benefit!  Please inquire if you have any other questions about receiving on-site massages.

It is also possible to receive a chair massage at my office, and these can usually be scheduled at the last minute since they only take 15 - 20 minutes.  Just make sure to call  first!
